The European Union is determined to become the world’s first “climate-neutral bloc” by 2050.
Greece has the first adopted Just Transition Programme at European level accompanied by 3 Territorial Just Transition Plans for the lignite areas & the dependent on fossil fuels islands.
Budget: 1,63 billion euros
Transition towards a climate – neutral economy.
Supporting projects & investments for the economic diversification/ transformation of the affected territories.
Supporting human resources.
A new impetusin a sustainable & socially just manner.

Territorial Just Transition Plans

• Region of Western Macedonia
  Main objective: Transforming the Region into an Alternative Energy Hub & attracting new investments.
• Municipality of Megalopolis & neighboring municipalities of Tripoli, Gortynia & Oihalia
  Main objective: Strengthening & diversifying the local production system and entrepreneurship through innovative productive activities (agriculture, circular & digital economy).
• North & South Aegean Islands & Crete
  Main objective: Focusing on clean energy production, sustainable tourism & sustainable blue economy.
